I grew up in a small town called Tanjong Malim in Perak, Malaysia . From primary school in 1959 until upper 6 in 1971, I was a ‘’free thinker’’ meaning that I did not believe that there is a God. My parents were ancestor’s worshiper or Taoist. Besides our ancestor’s altar, there was one very important altar in my parent’s home called ‘‘Theen Koong’’ which means the god of heaven. Every morning and evening, they offered incense and prayed to this altar, talking to it, asking for protection, good health, prosperity, etc. But I did not follow my parents. I preferred my happy go lucky, albeit, empty and meaningless existence of a free thinker. When I entered University of Malaya in 1972, I met undergraduates from the Varsity Christian Fellowship who shared the Gospel with me, and invited me to Bible studies, Christian fellowships and Church retreats. Then on one particular day in 1974 when I was struggling with a serious life event, a friend shared with me the gospel, that Jesus is God in a human body, that He loved me, that I am a sinner and that He died on the cross to pay the penalty of my sin on my behalf so that my sin can be forgiven. I believed, I turn from my sin and I turned to Jesus, and surrendered my life to Jesus. He led me to say a prayer to receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I started to attend Sunday Service, bible studies, and christian fellowships. After becoming a Christian, my life had taken on a new meaning, and for the first time I had the peace in my heart. Since then, I have learned to be thankful, humble, contented, God centred, and others centred. . I have learnt to trust Jesus, to do His will, and rely on His strength. In my journey through life, Jesus had been faithful, and was always there to see me through all circumstances. In December 2019, I had a terrible accident and was paralysed from below my neck. Jesus saved my life and He saved me from tetraplegia. By Jesus’ grace and mercy, I have now fully recovered. I thank Jesus for all that He had done for me. I invite anyone to ‘’come and see’’ what Jesus can do for you.
