2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Do not conform:
Do not be conformed to this world means do not to comply with the standards of this world. We must conform to God’s standard and not the world’s standard. We must not go along with the flow of the world. We must not behave like the people of the world. 1 John 2:15, ”Do not love the things of the world”. J. B. Philip’s paraphrase, ”do not let the world squeeze you into its own mold”.
The Greek word for transform is ”metamorphose” which means a radical change. Our mind is important to God. Our mind must to radically changed and renewed. Our mind needs a radical makeover. We must not think like non-Christians. We must not have the same worldview as the non-Christians. We must transform and renew our minds by saturating our minds with the word of God, by studying, researching, meditating, understanding, applying, and memorizing the word of God, the Bible.
Discerning God’s will.
The Greek word for approve is ”dokimazo” which means to discern. God wants us to discern and do His will and so that He can fulfill His purpose for our lives. God revealed His will to us through His Word, the Bible. A transformed and renewed mind will discern and do God’s will. God’s Will is always good (Romans 8:28), acceptable, perfect, complete, favorable, and pleasing. The Greek word for acceptable is ”dektos”, which means favorable or pleasing.
If we present our bodies to God as a living sacrifice, God will transform and renew our mind, and God will reveal His Will to us, which is good, perfect, pleasing, and favorable.
Heavenly Father, we commit and surrender our lives to You. We present our bodies to You as living sacrifices for You to use at your disposal. We pray for the transformation and renewal of our minds. We pray for discerning Your Will, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
