John 1: 6-8
“6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light, he came only as a witness to the light.”
The man sent from God is John the Baptist, a prophet and a fore runner of Jesus. John the Baptist and Jesus of Nazareth were second cousins because Elizabeth, the mother of John, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, were first cousins.
John the Baptist announced the coming of Jesus.
John 1: 23, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the LORD”. LORD in capital letters is the Hebrew tetragrammaton YHWH.
John testified Jesus as Son of God, John 1: 34, “I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
John testified Jesus as Lamb of God. John 1: 29, “behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!“ and John 1: 36, “Behold the Lamb of God”.
John the Baptist was not the Christ, John 1:20, “I am not the Christ.”
John was the witness, the voice, and the messenger.
Jesus is the Christ, the Word, snd the Message.
Heavenly Father, Your word is active and living, sharper than any two-edged sword, able to penetrate and divide the soul and spirit, joints and marrow, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
