John 1: 14
“14The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father full of grace and truth.”
“The Word became flesh.”
Jesus, the Word, became a human being through the incarnation. God became incarnate (became flesh) to be the saviour of mankind. Jesus of Nazareth stepped out from eternity past into human history dividing our calendar into AD and BC. Easter and Christmas celebrations commemorated His life.
“and made His dwelling among us.”
Dwelling in Greek ” is “tabernacle”. Jesus, the Word ‘’tabernacled’’ among us. Tabernacle, later Solomon’s temple, the earthly dwelling place of Yahweh. Jesus is Immanuel, God in our midst, God with us.
King Solomon asked in 1 Kings 8:27, “will God really dwell on earth?” 1000 years later, He did, “the word became flesh and dwell among us”.
“We have seen His glory”.
John was a very reliable eye witness of Jesus’ glory. John and Jesus were cousins because John’s mother Salome and Jesus’ mother Mary were sisters.
“the glory of the one and only Son who came from the Father, full of Grace and Truth”.
Jesus lived and walked in perfect Grace and Truth. The Hebrew word for Grace and Truth is ‘’Hesed’’ and ‘’Emet’’ which means unfailing love and faithfulness.
John 1:14, NLT, “the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.
Lord, thank You for stepping out of eternal time into human history and tabernacling among us, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
