Lesson 21

R

omans 8: 31-34, If God is for us, who can be against us?

VV 31-34, 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

Paul asked rhetorical questions.

V 31, ”if God is for us, who can be against us?”

If God is on our side, why worry about who is on the other side? If God is for us, what is there to worry about? Don’t worry! Nothing!

V 32, He who did not spare His Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely gives us all things?

Of course!

V 33, ”Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect?”

Satan the accuser of the brethren will bring a charge against us.

Rev 12:10 b, ”for the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down”.

V 34, “Who is he who condemns us?”

Satan and our own heart condemn us but God will not condemn us if we are in Christ.

1 John 3:20, “For if our won heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things”

Romans 8:1, ”there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we claim the promise that there is now no more condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross as a substitutionary atonement for our sin, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
