In 1979, I was a young Medical Officer in the beautiful town of Taiping. It was surrounded by hills and greenery, giving it a peaceful feel. The scope of my official responsibilities appeared straightforward. Yet, they turned out to be much more rewarding than I expected. It became one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career.
