This book is about a piece of music of music that is special to Liam. A story about a father who reconnects with his daughter through music Together the compose and perform music that leads them into a long lasting friendship. Liam and his daughter Clair perform at several concerts after creating their own pieces. In each piece, each note there dreams are captured. Through teaching, Liam shares a sense of passion as he he guides them on their own journeys through the love of music.. This is a story that says forgive, heal and embrace second chances. Soul Searching one heartbeat at a time!
Working in healthcare is a rewarding experience, everyday is same but different at the same time. This field provides the opportunity to touch people’s lives and bring about positive outcomes. Every healthcare professional has a lifetime of stories that can motivate, transform, and move the population. “In the quiet between heartbeats, wisdom grows; in the fading echo of a stethoscope, a life’s meaning unfolds,” writes Dr. Andrew CS Koh in his memoir. Appropriately titled From Stethoscope to Wisdom – A Doctor’s Reflection is a 205-page volume full of wisdom, spirituality, medicine, and life experiences of someone who made his life mission to serve the sick and heal the hurting.
“This book is an autobiographical narrative that chronicles my journey from birth to retirement. I wrote this memoir as a lasting legacy for my family, friends, and loved ones. My hope is that my experiences will inspire and resonate with others who may find reflection in their own lives,” writes Dr. CS Koh in the prologue detailing his motivation for penning this memoir. The story of Koh’s life starts off from his home birth and christening ceremony where he is given the Cantonese name which translates to ‘praising the stars’ and moves on to his childhood in the town of Tanjong Malim. A vivid description of the town environs is notable here.
The story moves on to describe his parents as strong believers in superstitions who trusted in traditional Chinese medicine. This is one aspect of the memoir I am not a big fan of, even though scientifically educated as a doctor of modern medicine, Koh is quick to denigrate traditional Chinese medicine and spirituality as mere “superstition.” There are chapters dedicated to his knowledge and experiences as a healthcare provider, delivering compassionate care for patients in pain, facing death, suffering, and through it all the lessons he learnt about compassion, healing, and faith. This mixture of professional, personal, and spiritual insights make this book worth reading.
Written in a chatty, conversational, down-to-earth manner, this book comes across as an easy read. It is more like a conversation with a friend/ mentor/ philosopher and less like a preachy lecture of an academic. As a healthcare provider myself, I find this book honest, real, and spoken from the heart of a healer. Time Traveler’s Return: Back to 1969 was a heartfelt read that took me to a charming library full of details such as a rotary phone, typewriters, classic books, students, and schoolteachers. Descriptions are solid, and yet whimsical feelings of a loved place come through. The book was an enduring memory of the MES school library and the hours of reading that were magical for those who went there, in 2025 and in 1969. The author painted a wonderful picture along with atmosphere, and then we ventured further into the story and into time. Professor Lim was an interesting character, and I won’t put in any spoilers here. I’ll just say that the mystery surrounding time was a fun part of the book. And then, I enjoyed the exploration undertaken by our hero, and the outcome of the adventure was satisfying. I must add that I love reading on rainy days or imagining it through a book. Josephine’s flashlight beam dances over the consoles, each coated in years of neglect. She restrains herself from reaching out to anything in this haunting location, her instincts warning her to refrain.
Instead, she scans the room for answers. If her grandfather kept the key so carefully, he might have left something else behind.
In the far corner, half-buried under a collapsed shelf, she spots a metal box. The lid is dented, its latch rusted. She pries it open with a crowbar, and a dry, musty smell escaped. Inside is a leather-bound ledger, its cover cracked with age. She opens it carefully, the yellowed pages whispering under her fingers.
The first entries are in neat block letters:

Next came detailed diagrams and blueprints of devices and gadgets that looked strikingly like what is in the room. Scrawled notes in the margins catches her eye:
When she turns another page, her chest tightens. She sees a faded photograph of her grandfather in his younger days. He exuded a more serious demeanor, with his gaze intensely locked onto the camera. Alongside him stood a team of men and women clad in lab coats, their features indistinct with the passage of time. An X had been marked over the faces of two of them.
Her hands quiver with uncertainty, flooded by an overwhelming surge of questions. Could it be that her grandfather was a time traveler? What led to the elimination of those two individuals? What secrets compelled her grandfather to keep this hidden from her? Scrawled on the last page of the ledger, a hurried and jagged note in a different handwriting reads:

A sudden metallic clang echoes through the room. Josephine’s head snaps up. Her flashlight beam catches movement, just a flicker, in the shadows near the far wall.
“Hello?” she calls, her voice sharper than she intends. A deafening silence follows.
She steps back toward the door, but the low hum from before returned, vibrating in the floor beneath her boots. This time, it is stronger and seem to pulse in sync with her heartbeat.
Josephine does not know if she is in danger or standing at the edge of something extraordinary.
But she knows one thing for certain, she isn’t going to leave this place! Not yet!
