In the heart of our family’s history rests a treasured relic – a century-old Singer sewing machine, a timeless heirloom passed down through the generations. From the skilled hands of my great-grandmother-in-law to the rhythmic hum beneath my mother-in-law’s fingers, its stitches have woven the fabric of our family narrative.
As a child, my wife would watch in awe as her mother transformed simple fabrics into intricate garments with the precision of an artisan. The mechanical melody of the sewing machine became the soundtrack of her upbringing, a comforting lullaby that echoed through the years.
Now, as the custodian of this antique marvel, I find myself transported to a bygone era whenever I run my fingers over its aged, yet resilient, frame. Each scratch and wear mark tells a story of the countless hours spent crafting garments for loved ones and the memories stitched into every seam.
This Singer sewing machine is more than an antique; it is a vessel of memories. It holds the echo of my great-grandmother-in-law’s laughter and the warmth of my mother-in-law’s embrace as they worked diligently on it. It is a legacy and a silent connection to the past. Its metal and mechanics is a bridge that spans five generations.Â
In the fast-paced world of today, there’s something incredibly comforting about revisiting the memories of our school days. These formative years shape us in ways we may not fully realize until later in life. Join me on a journey back in time as I recall my experiences at Methodist English Primary School and Secondary School. This story isn’t just about academic lessons. It’s also about quirky traditions, unexpected superstitions, and a surprising reunion after almost fifty years.
Primary School Beginnings
It all started in 1959, when I embarked on my educational journey at Methodist English Primary School. While I may not remember every detail from those early years, there’s one memory that stands out vividly – my first day of school.
In a charmingly superstitious gesture, my parents secretly placed onions and sugar cane in my school bag. Why, you ask? Well, according to Cantonese tradition, “onion” symbolizes intelligence, and they hoped it would boost my smarts. Similarly, sugar cane represented sweetness, and they believed it would make me a kinder person.
Imagine the surprise when one of my classmates decided to explore my bag and discovered these unusual items. Laughter ensued, leaving me slightly red-faced. Little did I know that this classmate would soon become my closest friend.
A Remarkable Friendship
As fate would have it, the classmate who found my bag’s peculiar contents became my best friend throughout primary school. We embarked on countless adventures together. We spent hours in the school library, devouring books and exploring new worlds through literature. Our shared love for music led us to tune in to the radio for the latest pop songs by artists like Cliff Richard, The Shadows, The Beatles, and more.
My friend had a unique style, emulating Elvis Presley with his signature high hairstyle. But that wasn’t all; he also had a soft spot for Mary Poppins and even adopted the nickname “Poppy Leong.” Our days were filled with spinning tops, catapults, marbles, and the thrill of capturing fighting fish from nearby rivers and spiders from towering trees.
We flew kites, rode bicycles, played games, and became active members of the Boy Scout movement. Those school days were a kaleidoscope of adventures and shared experiences.
A Bittersweet Farewell
As with all good things, my cherished friendship took an unexpected turn. One day, my best friend left school without a word of farewell. I was left bewildered and saddened. He had mentioned the possibility of relocating to Seremban with his family but provided no forwarding address or any means of staying in touch.
For years, I wondered about him and the abrupt end to our friendship. It felt like a chapter left incomplete, a story without closure.
Reunited After 48 Years
Fast-forward to 2015, and something incredible happened. After an astonishing 48-year gap, my long-lost friend and I were reunited, all thanks to the marvels of modern technology. Social media platforms like Facebook, Google, WhatsApp, and email played a pivotal role in reconnecting us.
To my amazement, he was now living in Jakarta, Indonesia. I made not one but two visits to Jakarta solely to reunite with my dear friend. The passage of time had caused him to forget about onions, sugar cane, his Elvis Presley hairstyle, and even his beloved alias, Poppy Leong.
A Sad Ending
Unfortunately, my best friend passed away peacefully in Jakarta in 2020 due to lymphoma, leaving behind his wife. Rest in peace, my friend; we will meet again in heaven in the next life.
In 2019, me and 30 other people traveled to Galilee, which is a significant and sacred place.
The Sea of Galilee was the place where Jesus dedicated a considerable amount of time, performing so many miracles such as feeding the 5000, walking on water, calming storms, and many others.
I was always interested in the stories of Jesus and His disciples. This trip promised to make those stories come alive in a meaningful way.
A Hotel by the Sea of Galilee
Upon our arrival, we checked into a cozy hotel nestled near the shores of the Sea of Galilee. The view from my room was amazing, with calm waters below a wide blue sky. It was a fitting start to what would prove to be an extraordinary adventure.
Setting Sail on Sacred Water
The next morning, we decided to take a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, like Jesus and His disciples did two thousand years ago. The moment I stepped onto that boat, I could feel a powerful sense of anointing in the air. It was as if the Holy Spirit was welcoming me on this journey.
While sailing in the Sea of Galilee, the wind got stronger, making the experience more exciting. We were captivated by the mesmerizing performance of a talented vocalist who delivered moving Christian songs to uplift our spirits. I got absorbed in the music and the soothing motion of the boat. It was a moment of true spiritual connection.
Gazing toward the horizon, we could make out two mountain ranges separated by a valley. Strong winds rushing down this valley frequently produce rapid thunderstorms due to wind tunnel effect.
Throw Back
Two thousand years ago, the disciples spent the whole night on a fishing boat here, but didn’t catch any fish. Then, Jesus instructed them to lower their nets once more, and as they did, the nets became filled with fish to the point of breaking. Overwhelmed by this miraculous catch, Peter fell to his knees before Jesus, acknowledging his own sinfulness.
Feasting on St. Peter’s fish
After our memorable boat ride, we were treated to a meal of St. Peter’s fish and chips. The fish was caught fresh from the Sea of Galilee. Savoring this local delicacy felt like a communion into the past. I thought about the disciples who had fished in these waters. It was a humbling experience.
Reflections on Galilee
Thinking about the meaningful moments of that day, I gazed out at the Sea of Galilee. Galilee left a lasting impression on me. I knew this trip would be unforgettable. It was a journey that touched my soul, reminding me of the timeless beauty and spirituality that permeates this sacred land.
In the end, my visit to Galilee in 2019 was not just a vacation; it was a spiritual odyssey. It was a journey that allowed me to step back in time and walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Sometimes, the most powerful travel experiences are the ones that touch your heart and soul unexpectedly. Galilee did just that, and I will forever be grateful for the memories and the moments of inspiration it gave me.

I want to share with you a remarkable milestone in my life’s journey—the joy of crafting 40 Christian non-fiction books. I am grateful for the journey that brought me to this achievement.
The Beginning
I started my journey as a Christian author with a simple idea and a strong desire to share God’s Word. I have written various forms of Christian literature over the years, such as novellas, commentaries, Bible study guides, and devotionals. These books have been my way of reaching out to a world hungry for spiritual nourishment.
Bestsellers and Beyond
I never expected that 16 of my books would become “Amazon bestsellers”. Each time my work was ranked as a bestseller, it not only acknowledged my efforts but also highlighted the strong desire for spiritual truth in our world today.
Surpassing Sales Milestones
The journey also took me to incredible sales milestones. Four of my books have surpassed 3,000 copies sold, reflecting the hunger for faith-based content in today’s readers. Six books have exceeded 2,000 copies sold, and an additional six have reached the 1,000-copies-sold mark. These numbers are more than statistics; they are testimonies to the impact of God’s Word and the power of storytelling.
Giving Glory to God
At this moment of reflection, I want to give all glory to God. It is through His grace and inspiration that I have been able to write these books. Each word, each story, and each message is a testament to His presence in my life.
Thank You Dear Readers
I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all my readers, from across the globe and far and wide. Your support, encouragement, and hunger for spiritual growth have been my driving force. You have made this journey worthwhile, and I am deeply grateful.
Conclusion
I am celebrating a great achievement of writing 40 Christian non-fiction books. This milestone reminds me of a meaningful verse from the Bible, Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” With Christ as my guide and source of strength, I look forward to continuing this journey of faith and writing, knowing that there are many more stories to tell and hearts to touch.
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey. May God’s blessings continue to abound in your lives.
Have you ever dreamed of coming face to face with one of the ocean’s magnificent giants? Kaikoura, New Zealand is your chance! Situated along the northeastern coast of New Zealand’s South Island, this coastal town is known for offering unforgettable whale-watching experiences. Kaikoura stands out from other places for whale-watching because of its stunning coastal scenery and advanced technology used to spot these amazing animals.
Years ago, I went on a whale-watching expedition in Kaikoura, and it was an amazing adventure! I took a train from Wellington to this coastal town. I checked-in to a motel with a view facing the stunning southern snow capped alps.
The Journey Begins:
I started my adventure early the next morning at the Kaikoura Harbor, and bought a ticket for a whole day whale watching tour. I boarded a fast boat to cross the South Pacific waters. There were other passengers like me, all eagerly anticipating an exciting day ahead.
Doppler Ultrasound
Whale watching in Kaikoura can be made all the more amazing thanks to technology used to locate whales. Our guides used an ultrasound device with Doppler technology to locate whales under the water in the deep blue sea. The device can accurately locate whales by measuring the velocity of sound waves bouncing off the whales. This technology is similar to Cardiac Doppler Echocardiography in medicine.
Up Close and Personal:
We got really excited when we found whales using the ultrasound device as we moved away from the coast. The boat captain skillfully brought us closer, and we saw these amazing creatures emerging gracefully from the sea. They were huge and powerful, and they took our breath away! We were truly speechless.
Kaikoura has a diverse marine ecosystem. We were fortunate enough to witness the delightful sight of dolphins frolicking and leaping in the water beside our boat. It was a joyful moment connecting with nature.
A Thrilling Show:
Kaikoura’s whale-watching experience is exceptional because you can watch these amazing sea creatures so close to you. Whales and dolphins were happy with their impressive jumps near our boat. I will never forget seeing whales and dolphins jumping out of the water and swimming so gracefully.
Bucket list:
If you love wildlife or just adventure, Kaikoura’s whale-watching experience should be on your bucket list. From cutting-edge technology and stunning coastal landscapes, to encounters with jaw-dropping marine life and an unforgettable journey.
Mark Kaikoura, New Zealand on your travel bucket list and prepare to be amazed by these titans of the deep. Whale-watching will leave memories that will last a lifetime – don’t miss the chance to experience its magic!

The Mid-Autumn Festival, known as the Moon Festival or Zhongqiu Jie, is a cherished holiday celebrated in many Asian countries. It falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, usually in September or October. This festival symbolizes unity, gratitude, and the beauty of family bonds. While it may bring to mind images of bright lanterns, delectable mooncakes, and the full moon, at its core, it’s about sharing moments with loved ones.
A Time for Reunion
In a fast-paced world where families often lead busy lives and live far apart, the Mid-Autumn Festival serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of family and togetherness. It’s a day when people make an extra effort to come together, whether they’re returning to their hometowns or simply gathering under the same roof for a hearty meal.
In China, where the festival has deep cultural roots, children and grandchildren often visit their parents and grandparents. This tradition beautifully showcases the concept of filial piety, where respect and care for one’s elders are paramount. During this time, generations bond over stories, share laughter, and savor delicious mooncakes.
A Culinary Delight: Mooncakes
No Mid-Autumn Festival is complete without mooncakes, sweet round pastries with intricate designs on their crusts. The mooncake’s round shape symbolizes completeness and unity, while the intricate patterns often carry deep meanings.
Mooncakes come in various flavors, from traditional lotus seed paste with salted egg yolk to more modern interpretations like ice cream mooncakes. The lighter taste of tea frequently counterbalances the richness of these treats, creating a perfect balance of flavors.
Chasing the Moon: Lanterns and Legend
The festival wouldn’t be complete without the whimsical sight of colorful lanterns illuminating the night. Children, in particular, revel in the opportunity to carry lanterns of all shapes and sizes. The lanterns symbolize hope, as they are released into the night sky with the belief that they will bring good fortune.
The festival also has a rich mythology tied to it. One of the most famous legends involves the beautiful Chang’e, who, after consuming the elixir of immortality, floated to the moon and became the Moon Goddess. Her tale, as well as that of the Jade Rabbit who resides on the moon, adds an element of wonder and enchantment to the celebration.
An Extraordinary Ordinary Day
In essence, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a day of appreciating life’s simple pleasures and acknowledging the importance of family. Amidst the busyness of our modern lives, it serves as a reminder that some of the most cherished moments occur during ordinary days spent with loved ones.
As we gaze at the full moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival, let’s not forget the beauty of an ordinary day filled with love, laughter, and shared stories. Just like the soft glow of the moon in the night sky, the bonds we strengthen during this special time can brighten our lives all year. So, whether you’re enjoying mooncakes, lighting lanterns, or simply sharing a meal, may your Mid-Autumn Festival be an extraordinary celebration of life’s ordinary joys.

My parents owned and operated a tinsmith business at No: 22 Chong Ah Peng Street, right in the town center. Surprsingly, the shophouse was still in its original condition until 2019 when it was dismantled and rebuilt. In 2018, I was given the unique honor of conducting a photoshoot of this same shophouse featuring all seven members who resided here back in 1958. It truly felt like divine providence when all seven of us who resided here came back together for such a historic and exclusive photo session in Tanjong Malim!
At that time, we were all children – I myself being just six when our initial photographs were taken in 1958. For our 2018 photoshoot, each one of us faithfully recreated that same tableau frozen in time fifty-plus years earlier.
One night, I experienced an extraordinary dream journey that transported me into another dimension. I saw amazing beings that were impossible to describe with words. They had vibrant colors and complex shapes that were beyond imagination. It was a truly unforgettable sight.
As I traversed this enigmatic landscape, an uneasiness began to develop within. With every step, I walked deeper into its bizarre world and was unable to discern its peculiar inhabitants’ motivations or intentions—their unblinking stares left an uneasiness that left me unsettled.
Dreams often unfolded like clockwork, and my anxiety rose with each new reality that appeared before me. Soon it became evident that I was trapped within this surreal dimension with no apparent means of escape; panic ensued as my heart raced as I desperately looked around for any sign of escape, yet all its boundaries seemed endlessly expansive.
Fear was reaching its zenith when I was abruptly shaken awake, just when it felt as if I couldn’t bear any longer. Transitioning from that unfamiliar world back into my familiar bedroom left me shaking with fear before realizing it had all been just a nightmare dream.
Dreams serve as a powerful reminder of the mystery our minds can create when we close them at night, even when seemingly strange or disconcerting images come flooding in from out of nowhere.

The story of David and Goliath is an inspiring tale that has touched the lives of many throughout history. It teaches us about faith, courage, and the strength that comes from believing in God. This timeless story still holds valuable lessons for us today.
David Found Solace as a shepherd Boy
David found peace and solace tending his father’s flock in Bethlehem’s quiet hills, not knowing that fate had something extraordinary planned for him.
Goliath’s Threat
News quickly spread in David’s village that Goliath of the Philistines posed a threat to their land. The presence of this formidable enemy filled David’s countrymen with terror. They were scared of Goliath’s power as his army approached with him leading them.
At first hearing Goliath’s challenge to David, something remarkable occurred: courage surged within him despite being young and having little experience fighting battles. David placed his trust in God and believed that His guidance would see them through.
Approaching King Saul with a determined heart, David offered to challenge Goliath. Although initially wary, King Saul agreed, and provided David with armor and weapons; however, these felt cumbersome to David; therefore, he knew using what was closest to his knowledge—his sling and some stones from a nearby stream—was his best strategy going forward.
Goliath was not impressed when David declared his intent. David knew that he would represent the Lord of Hosts, Israel’s God. With each step forward, he felt God with him, reminding him he wasn’t alone.
As David approached, Goliath couldn’t help but burst into a hearty laugh. Compared to Goliath’s huge size and strong armor, David seemed powerless. However, David’s strength actually came from God. David remained confident in his strength, believing that his prayers and an accurate shot with his slingshot would overcome Goliath’s threatening armored giant.
Triumph and Victory
David struck Goliath’s forehead with pinpoint accuracy. The Philistine soldiers were amazed as their strong champion tripped, fell, and hit the ground with a loud thud. Then there was a moment of silence, followed by cheers from David’s friends.
At that moment, the tide of battle suddenly turned in their favor. After Goliath was defeated, the Israelite forces joined together and successfully drove out the Philistine forces from their lands. This news spread quickly across Israel, and David became known as a symbol of victory.
Reflecting back on this miraculous day, David realized he hadn’t defeated Goliath through his own strength or skill but due to God’s incredible strength. God chose David as proof that trusting in Him can help us overcome difficult situations.
In his life, David always used the lessons from that important day: faith, humility, and the belief that doing the right thing can help us overcome any challenge we face.
